Hamlet

This is a practical application of the experimental typeface Roarshack. This is a contemporary visual reinterpretation of the classic play Hamlet. Psychologists used Rorschach tests to examine a person's personality characteristics and emotional functioning. The story of Hamlet explores themes of psychological reflection, morality, and ethics and a Rorschach-inspired typeface married well with those themes. The inclusion of the crown-adorned Rorschach skull draws on familiar visual motifs associated with Hamlet. Skulls and crowns are familiar symbols that represent the play and are often found on other Hamlet book covers. To invert this symbolism was to also reference the corruption and insanity that the characters in the play, mainly Hamlet, have to face in order to overcome their struggles. The blood-red A, the first letter in the alphabet, a symbol for Greek alpha, the beginning of all things, is a grim foreshadowing of the tragedies featured in the play.
